Xbox guide

Stream from your Mac to Xbox

Xbox consoles can use media-player apps to browse network media sources. Media Server Pro turns your Mac into the local media source.

Xbox setup

  1. Install or open the media player app on Xbox.
  2. Put your Mac and playback device on the same home network.
  3. Open Media Server Pro on your Mac, add your media folders, and click Start Server.
  4. In the Xbox media player, look under network devices or media servers.
  5. Select Media Server Pro and choose the folder or media category you want.

Keep in mind

  • Start the server from the Mac menu bar.
  • Browse from Xbox on the same local network.
  • No remote access setup, subscriptions, or account linking.

Common questions

Does Xbox need to be wired?

No, but wired Ethernet or strong Wi-Fi is better for high-bitrate video.

Can Xbox play every format from my Mac?

Playback depends on the Xbox media app and codec support. Discovery and streaming are separate from decoding. If one media app fails, try another compatible media-player app on Xbox.

What if Xbox cannot find the server?

Check same-network access, disable VPN LAN blocking, and make sure your router is not isolating wireless clients.
